The doctor says that he has never dealt with anything like this.

Later, Eretria and Lyria seek refuge in Cogline's lair. Lyria is distraught over Ander's death and abandoning her mother Tamlin. Eretria comforts Lyria by telling her that the Rover Cephelo sacrificed his own life so that she could live. Lyria asks what she should do and Eretria tells her they will find Cogline so that she can recover her kingdom.

Back at Storlock, Allanon slips into a coma. A distraught Mareth blames Wil for her father's wound. Wil apologizes and Mareth pleads with her father to fight. Elsewhere, a cloaked Bandon travels with the Warlock Lord's sword on horseback.

Mareth later apologizes to Wil for what she said but Wil recognizes that he is responsible for Allanon's coma. Mareth tells Wil not to wallow in self pity. Wil has tried magic and medicine and does not know what to do. The two embrace and Wil tells Mareth that Allanon meant a lot to her. She vows to save her father. The gnome doctor then gives Wil a tome, telling him that Allanon passed it to him last year. Unknown to them, they are being watched by an unknown figure.

While Eretria and Lyria are sleeping in Cogline's lair, Eretria experiences a vision of Amberle. Amberle tells her that Wil is in Storlock and to bring him to the Ellcrys. She warns that the darkness is almost here and that Wil is their only hope. Shortly later, Cogline arrives, having escaped the Crimson soldiers. Cogline is relieved to find both of them safe. Eretria tells Cogline about Amberle's vision.

Wil looks through the tome but can't read Druid. Mareth however can read it since her mother taught her using Allanon's love letters. Mareth finds a passage telling her that she needs to enter Allanon's dream stage to heal him. However, the catch is that if Allanon dies, she also dies. Wil thinks that it is too risky but Mareth is willing to pay the price.

Back at Cogline's lair, Cogline says that Amberle's vision is a warning that the Warlock Lord will return. He instructs Eretria to find Wil. Riga plans to execute Tamlin at dawn.

In Allanon's dream, Mareth is chased by a winged demon. Allanon destroys the demon but is displeased that Mareth has come and tells her that she should have stayed at Storlock. Mareth refuses to leave but Allanon counters that he is not yet ready to return to the "land of the living." Mareth refuses to abandon her father, who tells her not to be led astray by her feelings. While Allanon is not a great father, Wil reassures Mareth that he is a great teacher. Eretria tells Wil they are ready to leave. While bidding farewell, Eretria tells Mareth not to feel bad because she was not the first to fall in love with Wil. Wil and Eretria depart on horseback while Mareth smiles.

Later, Wil and Eretria dismount for a rest. Eretria tells Wil that Ander was the last of the elven line with the death of his father and brother, and Amberle's transcendence to a new state. Wil then reveales that Ander was not the last of his line but that Mareth is the next-in-line to the throne of Aborlon.
