Plot[]

At Storlock, Allanon apologizes to Mareth for failing to protect her as the flames grow. Mareth says this not the end and the two speak in Druid. The Crimson soldiers are then attack by Garet Jax, the Gnome chieftain, and several Gnome warriors. Jax saves Allanon and Mareth from death by tossing Allanon a device that unlocks that magic–inhibiting collars. Allanon extinguishes the fire but a fourth rune disappears. The two are helped by the Gnomes. Allanon realizes that the Codex is in the possession of the Warlock Lord and says they have to leave for Graymark.

In the ruins of San Francisco, Princess Lyria and Cogline reunite. Lyria asks why he did not say anything when he knew who she was. Cogline responds that runaway princesses don't like too many questions and states that he only cared that she was happy. With Queen Tamlin's death, Cogline tells her that she is the only one who can open Heaven's Well. He warns her that the Warlock Lord is after her. Despite Cogline's warning, Lyria wants to return to help her friends and subjects. Cogline advises her to stay in the Enclave. Cogline also tells her that her mother's necklace is made from golden elfstone, which protects her from the Warlock Lord's gaze. He tells her not to remove it because it is her last line of defense.

Meanwhile, Wil and Eretria travel through a forest. Wil tells Eretria that he has made peace with Amberle. He tells her to keep an eye on Mareth should he die. Eretria vows to protect him but is convulsed by a spasm of pain. The Warlock Lord is using his heart to control Eretria. Wil senses something is wrong and Eretria tells him that she thinks she is losing her mind. Wil senses it is more than that and presses her for the truth. She tells him that she is not whom he thinks she is and that she is not good.

In Graymark, the Warlock Lord senses that Eretria's darkness is growing stronger. He tells Bandon that the Child of Armageddon's mind speaks to him and teaches Bandon how to see through Eritrea's mind. Bandon realizes that Eretria is traveling with the Shannaran. The Warlock says she is resisting him. When Bandon asks why he is interested in a "worthless" Rover, the Warlock Lord asks Bandon about his true desire. Bandon claims that he wants to serve him but the Warlock Lord realizes he is lying and demands the truth. Bandon reveals that he wants to learn from the Warlock Lord so that he can become as powerful as him. The Warlock Lord realizes Bandon desires power and agrees to teach him the arts.

Later that night, the Warlock Lord shows Bandon the Druid's Codex. He tells Bandon that he is the sum of all magic. Bandon opens the tome and reads a passage on power. Bandon thinks that he has to seize power for himself and attacks the Warlock Lord. Bandon uses his powers to force the Warlock Lord to the ground and seeks revenge for humiliating him. However, the Warlock Lord quickly turns the tables on his apprentice and impales him with the Warlock Sword. The Warlock Lord then takes the Codex for himself.

Later, Eretria tells Wil about Cogline's revelations of her true origins. Since the eclipse, she senses that the Warlock's magic is trying to consume her. Eretria confides that she sometimes enjoys the darkness and fears she will become like Bandon.

At Graymark, Allanon and the others arrive only to discover that the Warlock Lord has departed. Allanon finds a dead Bandon and says he has failed him. Mareth finds the severed head of General Riga. Jax is disappointed that he did not get to kill the General. Mareth says that they arrived too late for the Codex. Alalon says that the Warlock Lord will still need Lyria to open Heaven's Well even with the Codex. Mareth says they need to get to her before the Warlock does. Allanon says that he and Mareth will find Lyria while Jax and the Gnome chieftain are to go to Leah. Allanon reasons that if he fails, Jax and the Gnome will be the last line of defense. When the Gnome points out that the Crimson have taken over Leah, Jax says that he can cut off the serpent's head. Jax plans to bring Riga's head to convince his remaining men to surrender.

Meanwhile, Wil and Eretria walk through the forest and see the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. The two enter the Enclave where they reunite with Lyria, who embraces Eretria. The two are joined by Mareth and Allanon.

Wil shows Allanon the restored sword of Shannara. Allanon thinks they now have a chance of winning this war. Wil shows Cogline the sword. Cogline reveals that he forged the sword before leaving the Order of Druids. When Allanon asks Wil about the Ellcrys, Wil learns that Allanon can't read his mind anymore since his magic is diminishing. Allanon tells Wil they are leaving at first light while Cogline explains Lyre is staying here for her own safety. Cogline drinks and says that it will be their last stand; one where magic and science stand together. When Cogline asks what will become of the Druid order once Allanon is gone, he replies that Mareth his daughter is his successor.

Later that night, Eretria and Lyria spend time together. Eretria tells Lyria that those memories of their time together fell like another lifetime. She is afraid of losing Lyria. Lyria reaffirms her love for Eretria. Eretria angrily vows to choose her own future and doesn't believe in fairy tale endings. Eretria tells her that it is not that simple. Lyria replies that it is a yes or no question and asks if she would want to be her Queen. The mark on Eretria's body glows and the Warlock Lord dispatches one of his Mord Wraiths to the Enclave.

At Leah, Jx and the Gnomes enter the throne room and confront General Riga's lieutenant. The Crimson officer says that they must have a death wish for them to strode boldly inside. Jax presents Riga's head and tells him to surrender. The Gnome chieftain adds that his men have already captured the other Crimson soldiers. When the officer charges at Jax for a final stand, the Gnomes disarm him and Jax tells the lieutenant that they are facing a bigger threat. He tells him that the Warlock Lord killed Riga and that he is coming for Leah next. Jax manages to convince the Crimson to put aside their differences to fight the Warlock Lord in return for a pardon.

At the Enclave, Wil and Allanon talk about the impending threat to the Four Lnads. Allanon tells Wil not to blame himself for every failure like his late father Shea Ohmsford. Wil relates his vision to Allanon but Allanon says the vision was meant for Wil alone. Allanon tells Wil that love is not a weakness since he and his wife produced Mareth. Wil vows to look after Mareth. Meanwhile, the Mord Wraith approaches the ruins of San Francisco.

Later, Cogline is visited by Eretria who shows him the glowing mark on her back. She tells him that it is getting worse. Eretria asks him how to fight this. Cogline tells her that the Warlock Lord is trying to infect her mind. For her own safety, he tells her to stay in the Enclave. Eretria refuses to abandon her friends but Cogline warns that she is only putting them in danger. Eretria refuses to let her demonic connection stop her and storms out.

Meanwhile, Mareth practises with her sword and Wil compliments her swordsmanship. Mareth asks Wil about his experience inside the Ellcrys. Wil says that she loved Emberle but that he has put the past behind him. Wil tells Mareth that King Ander is dead and that she is the heir to Arborlon's throne. Mareth thinks this is impossible since she was supposed to be a Druid. Wil replies that sometimes fate chooses their destiny.

The Mord Wraith homes in on the Golden Gate Bridge. Cogline tells Allanon they are in danger since the Warlock Lord has gotten his claws into Eretria's mind. Cogline decides to take drastic action and seal Eretria inside a cargo container fitted with an electric current to repel demons. The Mord Wraith then arrives and Allanon tells Cogline to keep Lyria save. Allanon vows to find Mareth and Wil since the Sword of Shannara is their only hope. They are joined by Eretria and Lyria.

Allanon later finds several bloodied bodies in the alleyway including a boy who played an improvised harp. Allanon soon finds the Warlock Lord, who is fiddling with the boy's instrument. Meanwhile, Wil, Eretria, and Lyria flee inside the electric current chamber which keeps the demons out. However, the Warlock Lord is able to speak into Eretria's mind. He also taunts Allanon for his weakness. Allanon vows to make him pay for murdering Bandon. The Warlock Lord boasts that Allanon can't defeat him but Cogline joins the fight.

Inside the container, the Warlock Lord takes control of Eretria's mind. Before Wil can leave to aid Allanon, the possessed Eretria attacks him and knocks him out. Allanon and Cogline fight the Warlock Lord while leaving Wil to handle his own battle. Allanon charges the Warlock with the Druid Sword but the Warlock Lord scratches his face with his sword. As the two clash, the Warlock Lord gains the upper hand. However, Cogline attacks the Warlock Lord with an improvised energy gun and drives him back. The Warlock Lord soon resurfaces and strikes Cogline with an energy bolt. He then faces Allanon for another round. Mareth arrives but Allanon tells his daughter to leave. The Warlock Lord hurls a car at Allanon and Mareth is forced to fight him.

Meanwhile, Eretria attacks Lyria and knocks her to the ground. Wil appeals to Eretria to resist the Warlock Lord's magic. The possessed Eretria kicks him in the face and tries to finish him with her knives. Lyria attacks Eretria and throws her to the ground. Lyria appeals to Eretria and she temporarily regains control. Unable to control the demonic presence, Eretria apologizes to Lyria and tells her to escape.

Mareth confronts the Warlock and tells him nobody messes with her family. She fights him with her twin swords and manages to disarm him. However, the Warlock Lord knocks her to the ground with energy beams.

Lyria refuses to abandon Eretria but tells her to trust her. However, the Warlock Lord regains control over Eretria and snatches Lyria's golden elfstone necklace. The possessed Eretria hands the golden necklace to the Mord Wraith outside, which enters her. Her eyes turn a vivid yellow-red.
